Reykjavík
Reykjavík city centre is approximately forty five minutes by road from Keflavik airport and only 5 minutes away from the cruise terminal on the edge of town. Swim in open-air pools heated by the very geothermal springs that inspired Reykjavik’s name. Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is where minerals bubble up from 5,000ft below the earth’s surface. The charming old quarter of Reykjavík has colourful wooden houses and narrow streets. Visit the impressive volcanic craters of the Heidmork conservation area, and enjoy a stop at The Pearl, a remarkable and unique building, built in 1988.
After a hearty breakfast, we pick you up and head south to Landeyjarhöfn harbour for a ferry to Vestmannaeyjar Island. Here, you’ll get up close to Atlantic puffins at Stórhöfði Cape and explore the Eldheimar Volcano Museum, learning about the dramatic 1973 eruption. Later, choose to hike the active Mt. Eldfell or wander the charming town before returning to the mainland. The day finishes with stops along the South Coast, including Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the iconic Eyjafjallajökull volcano, and the black sand beaches of Vík. Overnight at Adventure Hótel Geirland.
Today is a spectacular adventure through Iceland’s highlands. After breakfast, hike alongside the fairy-tale Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon before venturing further into remote volcanic regions to explore Laki and Lakagígar craters, sites of one of history’s largest eruptions. We’ll make a stop in the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, where you can explore basalt columns and waterfalls at your leisure, before returning to Adventure Hótel Geirland for the night.
Enjoy a great breakfast before checking out and driving off the beaten track along Fjallabaksleið nyrðri. Explore the Eldgjá Canyon, the largest volcanic canyon in the world, including the stunning Ófærufoss waterfall. Next, we’ll spend a few hours in Landmannalaugar, hiking colorful rhyolite mountains, wandering lava fields, and soaking in the natural geothermal pools. Stop briefly at Hjálparfoss Waterfall on the way back to Reykjavik for the evening.
After breakfast, set off to explore Iceland’s famous Golden Circle. Wander through Þingvellir National Park, see the bubbling Geysir hot springs, and marvel at Gullfoss waterfall. Continue along the South Coast, walking behind Seljalandsfoss, admiring Skógafoss, and exploring Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach with its dramatic basalt columns and Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Overnight near the village of Vík.
After a filling breakfast, journey toward Vatnajökull National Park for a guided glacier hike on one of Europe’s largest glaciers. Later, visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the nearby Diamond Beach, spotting floating icebergs and seals. Overnight in the seaside town of Höfn, surrounded by stunning glacier and mountain scenery.
Today, we travel along the scenic East Fjords with stunning coastal views. Hike to Hengifoss, Iceland’s second tallest waterfall, and admire Litlanesfoss, famous for its striking basalt columns. After a day of incredible landscapes, arrive at your accommodation in Egilsstaðir for a restful night.
Start the day with a visit to the awe-inspiring Stuðlagil Canyon, where turquoise waters flow between towering basalt cliffs. Continue to the Lake Mývatn region, exploring Námaskarð geothermal area, the Dimmuborgir lava formations, and optional bathing in the Earth Lagoon hot springs. End the day near Akureyri, Iceland’s second largest city.
After breakfast, explore Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland. Then head to Dalvík for a thrilling 3-hour whale watching tour in Eyjafjörður fjord, spotting humpback whales, dolphins, and possibly blue whales. Travel along the scenic Tröllaskagi Peninsula, stopping in fishing villages and the charming town of Siglufjörður, before reaching your West Iceland accommodation for the night.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast before exploring West Iceland’s highlights. Visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, the stunning Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, and the historic site of Reykholt, home of medieval scholar Snorri Sturluson. Return to Reykjavik for your final night, reflecting on nine days of unforgettable adventures.
