Etihad Extends Complimentary Onboard Wi-Fi to More Cabins
Published 14 May 2026 • Skylord Travel Industry Desk
Etihad Airways has confirmed a meaningful upgrade to its onboard product: from 15 May 2026, complimentary Wi-Fi will be extended to guests travelling in Business Deluxe and Economy Deluxe fares, joining First cabin passengers and Etihad Guest Platinum members who already enjoy the entitlement.
In a brief but pointed note to trade partners, the airline framed the move as part of its push to deliver “exceptional journeys” and to strengthen its position across key markets. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to offering exceptional journeys and strengthening our network across key markets,” the carrier said.
How the new entitlement breaks down
Etihad sells its cabins under a tiered “fare brand” structure that splits each cabin into a more flexible “Deluxe” fare and a more restricted variant. Until now, complimentary onboard Wi-Fi was reserved for the top of the cabin and for the airline’s most loyal frequent flyers. With this change:
- First cabin guests — included (no change).
- Etihad Guest Platinum members — included (no change).
- Business Deluxe guests — now included.
- Economy Deluxe guests — now included.
Travellers on lower fare brands will still be able to purchase Wi-Fi access onboard. Etihad has directed agents to its Etihad Hub portal for the full set of details.

Why it matters
Onboard Wi-Fi has shifted, in just a couple of years, from a paid premium add-on to something travellers expect by default — particularly on long-haul carriers competing for premium and corporate business. By tying complimentary access to specific fare brands, Etihad keeps a commercial lever on the lowest fares while pushing guests on flexible tickets a clear extra reason to upgrade.
It is also a thoughtful response to a quiet but growing pressure from competitors. Several Gulf and European rivals have either gone fully free-for-loyalty-members or introduced fleet-wide complimentary access. Etihad’s approach — free, but tied to the more flexible fare brand within each cabin — is less generous than “free for everyone,” but more competitive than the previous First-cabin-only stance.
What it means for agents and travellers
- The change is effective 15 May 2026 — worth communicating proactively to corporate accounts and frequent travellers.
- Business Deluxe is now an even stronger pitch versus the restricted Business cabin sibling: same seat, same crew, more flexibility, and now free Wi-Fi.
- Economy Deluxe takes a real step up in perceived value, particularly for leisure clients who would have otherwise paid for Wi-Fi as an extra.
- Loyalty-driven travellers can still get Wi-Fi through Etihad Guest Platinum status, independent of fare brand.
The bigger picture
Etihad has been quietly active throughout 2026, adding routes, building out its fare-brand architecture and fine-tuning onboard touchpoints. None of these changes are dramatic on their own. Taken together, they suggest a carrier that is treating the post-pandemic period as an opportunity to make its product feel more premium without resetting its commercial model. Free Wi-Fi for two more cabins is exactly the kind of move that costs comparatively little but lands well with the guests Etihad most wants to retain.
For agents, this is a useful talking point on every new Etihad quote between now and the end of the year. For travellers, it is a small but real reason to look again at the airline before defaulting to a familiar choice.
