Virgin Atlantic to Offer Free, Fleet-Wide Starlink Wi-Fi by 2027

If you’ve ever tried to watch a film or send a video call from 35,000 feet, you’ll know how patchy inflight Wi-Fi can be. That’s about to change in a big way. Virgin Atlantic has just announced that it will become the first UK airline to roll out free, high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire fleet—and we couldn’t be more excited.

What’s Changing?

Starting in late 2026, Virgin Atlantic will begin installing Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite technology on its Boeing 787s, Airbus A350s, and new A330-900neos. By the end of 2027, the full fleet will be connected, offering passengers a service that’s:

  • Fast enough to stream Netflix and YouTube
  • Stable enough for video calls and online gaming
  • Free for every passenger — no sneaky upgrade fees

That means whether you’re heading to New York for work, Barbados for sunshine, or Johannesburg to see family, you’ll stay connected gate-to-gate.

Why Starlink?

Starlink, part of SpaceX, has been making waves in aviation because it delivers low-latency internet from space. Unlike traditional satellite systems, which can be slow and unreliable, Starlink’s network of thousands of satellites brings speeds comparable to what you’d expect at home.

For travellers, this means:

  • Multiple devices can connect at once
  • No more buffering when streaming
  • A smoother, more modern inflight experience

Virgin Atlantic’s Investment in the Future

This isn’t just about Wi-Fi—it’s part of a much bigger refresh. Virgin Atlantic is investing $17 billion to modernise its fleet with fuel-efficient aircraft like the A350-1000 and A330-900neo. By 2028, they’ll be flying 45 next-generation planes, designed to make journeys more comfortable and sustainable.

And yes, the inflight perks are getting an upgrade too—think comfier seats, luxury suites in Upper Class, and a greener, smarter travel experience.

What This Means for Skylord Travellers

At Skylord Travel, we know how important staying connected is—whether you’re closing a deal mid-flight or keeping your kids entertained with Netflix. Virgin Atlantic’s move to offer free, unlimited Wi-Fi sets a new gold standard in long-haul travel and we expect other airlines to follow suit.

If you’ve ever hesitated to fly long-haul because of digital disconnection, this is game-changing news.
